In this episode of the Mattie James podcast we’re discussing how to find your confidence as an influencer. This is a question I tend to get fairly often from followers and listeners alike. Confidence as an influencer didn’t happen overnight and we all have our days. Become Aware of Your Value (0:55)
Most influencers lack confidence because they lack awareness. When you don’t know what makes you useful (aka valuable) to others, it’s tough to be confident. Paying attention to the questions and comments followers leave is a great place to start when it comes to learning your value. Engagement doesn’t lie – even when engagement is small – it’ll give you the proof in the pudding.
Create more of the content your audience is responding to. If you’re a fashion influencer but followers engage more when you post food content, make more food content. Clearly, you’re doing something right in that department.
Research The Market & Brands You Want To Work With (2:48)
Staying in the know is so important in influencer marketing. While researching brands is a good start, you want to be in the know with the influencer market. What brands are working with who? What kind of deliverables are influencers executing on Instagram? What does that mean for you? The research you do, the more you know. The more you know, the more confident you are.
Know Your Audience (5:08)
Your job is to eliminate the confusion of who your audience is. As influencer, your job is to influence, inform and inspire your audience. When you know who that is, then you know how to talk to them. It’s always a bit nerve wrecking to talk to a stranger. However, when you know someone, it’s a lot easier to talk them. The same applies to your audience. When you know them, you can engage with them with a higher level of confidence.
